My Teenage Indulgence While In My Twenties: Breaking Dawn

Don't we all have some "teen age" indulgences? Young Adult books, teen mags, shows on t.v., movies about prom and high school life, etc. Mine is definitely YA books, namely the Twilight series. Mostly because, and I'll say it again, I read Twilight a year before anyone even knew about it.

I still remember going to the bookstore a month after New Moon came out and when I asked the lady if they had it in stock she said, "Hmm, I've never seen this book before. What a pretty cover. Do you want me to backorder it for you?" Yeah.

Anyway, I'm going to watch Breaking Dawn: Part 1 with Franco because no one here in Chino Hills is a Twilighter (so sad) and I'm wearing a one-of-a-kind shirt! Liv Carter from Provo, Utah designed these "Isle Esme" tropical pink t-shirts and is opening up the ordering to anyone if you're in Utah County, or if you're out of the area, you can pay for shipping. They're $14 each, a bargain if you ask me. I already ordered mine, so contact Liv at cowgirlprincess{at}hotmail{dot}com if you want one, too. And believe me, you do!

Deadline to order is November 1st.

Episode III: Eclipse

I watched Eclipse again last night and I loved it more. Franco went with me and we double-dated with our friends Kelsey and Bryan. We had some fun before the show. Has anyone seen Airbender yet?

So this is what I wrote on June 30, after having watched Eclipse at midnight:

Bear with me...I'm sleep-deprived so I may not exactly be able to form cohesive sentences. I hope I can get my thoughts about Eclipse across while they're still fresh in my mind~ before they're clouded by other people's reviews.

**Read at your own discretion: there are some specific plot points mentioned that may spoil the movie for you if you haven't seen it.**

First off, the "Loves":
  • the coloring in the film was finally normal~ it wasn't perpetually blue or brown-orange! Kudos to the new director.
  • Kristen can finally act without blinking and licking her lips a bagillion times a second, and she formed full sentences without stuttering too much. Yay.
  • Charlie!
  • I thought the tribal council scene with Billy telling the legend of the third wife was done pretty well. Felt a bit rushed, but it got the point across.
  • All the training scenes with Jasper & the Cullens. Finally some action and not just standing around looking pretty and saying one-word lines.
  • The proposal scene: exactly as a I had pictured it, bed and all ;} I thought it was so cute when Edward's voice cracked: it reminded me of when Franco proposed to me! Ring was pretty~ glad they didn't make it an awful yellow-gold. Still am not a fan of the huge circular diamond set, but it is better than I expected.
  • THE TENT SCENE. OMGness. My favorite! And when Jacob & Bella kiss...didn't feel any chemistry but it was still cute.

The "Likes":
  • Okay, Bryce as Victoria wasn't that bad, but still, I missed Rachelle.
  • I only liked Riley~ I understand why they made his role more prominant, but you weren't supposed to feel sorry for him, right? Cuz I didn't. At all.
  • Seth--I think he did pretty well in the short time he was in the movie, as a human and as a wolf.
  • I really enjoyed watching Jasper and Rosalie's histories. Break it up a little bit.
The "Meh, They Could Have Done Better With That's":
  • Bella's wig. Her black, spiky Joan Jett hair would have looked a lot better than that ug-a-ly wig in some scenes. Bleh.
  • Victoria's decapitation--wow. Didn't think it could look any more fake. I mean, of course it's fake, but it was a little too dramatic...
  • Bree--not as I pictured her, a little too "young," which yes, I know she plays a newborn vampire and she's only 15 in real life, but in the Bree Tanner book and in her short scene in Eclipse, I pictured someone wildy different. Read Eclipse. She's supposed to have chin-length dark hair. Yeah.
Only one real dislike:
  • Bad verbage. I know Jacob has a potty mouth, but did they really need to illustrate it that much in the film? I know, I know, it's only a few words, but still. Stephenie did just fine without them.

Eclipse At Midnight

I'm almost finished writing a more comprehensive review on Eclipse, but I'll wait a day or so before I post that. Thought I'd share a little bit about my first experience watching a Twilight Saga movie at midnight.
I was dreading this midnight showing for two reasons,
         1. I knew I wouldn't get enough sleep and therefore be a zombie for the rest of the day, and
                2. The. Screaming. Fans. After my experience last year at the New Moon red carpet premiere, I didn't particularly like the "scream your head off at anything Twilight" idea.

My friends Shelby and her sister Megan were perfect Twilight-movie-viewing pals, excited but not over-the-top. We got to the theater three hours early. It was perfect timing. There were people there at 2 pm, and that's just nuts. Another plus, our line was inside the theater, so we didn't have to brave the cold. Yes, it's almost July and it's raining in Southern California. The world is ending.

I brought the first two movies and Twilight: SceneIt to play on a portable DVD player so the time passed quickly.

A half hour before midnight, we entered the theater and got seats right in the middle. Hooray! We settled in and waited for the movie to start.
     And waited.
           And waited...

It finally started twenty minutes late and then a couple minutes in, the screen went black. Five minutes later, it started up again. Phew. A minute later, black again. Seriously?? It ruined the first ten minutes of the movie for us, but whatever. I was too tired to complain. And all throughout the movie I didn't hear a peep of interruptive comments or giggling. I was so happy! I only regret not sleeping long enough.

Even though Eclipse was centered around Bella, she wasn't the main character anymore. That's why Eclipse is my favorite book of the saga. We really get to know who and why the Cullens and the werewolves are and get a break from Edward/Bella's "perfect" relationship. Jealousy plays a big part in this story, but Rob and Taylor took it miles away from the juvenile "Mine! Gimme!" teen relationship drama and instead gave a very satisfying show. Yes, the romance was more intense--*spoiler--leg-hitch!*--and I had a 13-yr-old sitting right next to me who got a little uncomfortable in some parts, but it was in no way superfluous. I'm watching it again on Friday and I can't wait. Though I will need to get some sleep before then.

For those of you who have seen it,
what scenes were the biggest crowd-pleasers?
Here are my favorite few:
1. Jacob makes his entrance. Nicely-fitted black shirt on a ripped Jacob. Yes, I will get on the bike behind that.
2. Bella and Charlie start to have "the talk." I loved all the scenes with Charlie. He's just cool.
3. Jacob uses a double entendre! To Edward in the tent: "Let's face it, I'm hotter than you." Classic.
*See more big audience reaction scenes here.

So that's my little teaser. I'm going to try to sleep now.

New Moon Night/Homemade Pizza

Last week was Spring Break for a lot of elementary/junior high kids, including my Beehives {12-13 yr olds at church}. On Wednesday, I had Ruth & Maddy over and we watched New Moon & the hours of extras {again!} plus we made my favorite homemade pizza from Trader Joe's.
I love these girls!
They bought their plush pets at the Long Beach aquarium earlier that day.
Maddy showing off her fresh mozarella, pepperoni, & basil creation. Yum!

The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner By Stephenie Meyer

Can't get enough of Stephenie's Twilight series?
Or maybe you have had enough and don't ever want to hear anything about BellaWard EVER again
...but you still love vampires?

Coming June 5, Stephenie's publishing the story of Bree Tanner, the newborn vampire we meet for the first time in Eclipse. And here's the best part: it's free. Online, of course.
But if you buy the over 200-page novella, as Stephenie's calling it, a dollar per book will go to charity.
Now that's capitalizing your famous-ity! She definitely knows how to capture her fan's attention.
Right on, Steph. I'm proud of you.

Read The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer
at http://www.breetanner.com/ on June 5th.

p.s. beautifully morbid cover, don't you think? I love it.
{Read about it through a link my b-i-l Randy sent me last night. He knows me too well.}

Eclipse Trailer And Prepare For A Ton Of Posts With 'Eclipse' In The Title!

It's HERE! I thought I'd have to wait until March 20 to see the 7 minute behind-the-scenes on the New Moon DVD, but the first trailer for Eclipse is finally here! Saw it on Stepheniemeyer.com.
What do you think?????

Taylor Lautner On Jay Leno

Can I just say how adorable Taylor Lautner is?
Ack! Every day I'm getting closer to the "Team Jacob" side...

New Moon Birthday Party

I promise this is the last post with "New Moon" in the title.
This weekend was a blur.

Last Friday, the day New Moon came out,
I had to be really careful to not read/see/hear anything about New Moon
because I had to wait until 4:30 pm on Saturday to watch it.

Let me tell ya: it was really hard.
It was everywhere!
But I managed, and so went in to see it with a mostly fresh perspective.

Two things:
1. I LOVED IT.
and
2. I AM DEFINITELY SEEING IT AGAIN.

Friday afternoon & Saturday morning were spent getting everything ready.
My sister Ruth, my friend Susie, and my hubby Franco helped SO much.
I am so grateful.

I was elated that so many people went to see the movie with me!
We reserved a whole row at the movie theater.
And because it was a matinee showing,
the theater wasn't too full.
It was perfect.

Thanks to all who came! You made my day!

Pri & me

Bry, Kels, Me & Franco

Then, it was on to dinner & festivities at our apartment.
I'm very happy at how it turned out:

The decor included:
red roses, tons of candles, branches with hanging quotes from New Moon, black, green and white tablecloths, and New Moon posters.

The food:
I had to make labels for the drinks~
I didn't have too much time to design them,
so I went with simple and named them the first thing that came into my head:
Vampire Elixir & Alpha Wolf.
{cheesy, huh?}
Haha!
The elixir was some red strawberry drink and the wolf drink was apple juice.
I had to have caramel apples and
for the main course: ravioli, salad, and rolls.

My favorite quote from New Moon.

On to my absolute favorite part of the whole party:

My friend Susie
{who left a little early so I didn't get a picture of her :( }
decorated this AMAZING cake with buttercream frosting & fondant.
I couldn't be any happier with how it turned out!

Franco & Me

Jenea gave me Twilight Scene It, so of course we had to play it!
Hayley & I were on a team and we won!

My mom saw the movie, too, and though she's not the biggest fan,
she realized she's a Team Jacob!
She likes his long hair.
I had to invite my beehives, too. Sarah, Maddy, and my sis Ruth.
We're showing off our bracelets~
which were the favors~
either a Jacob or Edward.
Edward's had a crystal heart and Jacob's had a wooden wolf.
I am both.
{I was almost leaning more towards Jacob...}

Mayra, Me & Jonathan
Jenea, Me, and Ela

What a night!
This night was not about New Moon.
It was about family, friends, & fun.
What more could you ask for in life?

New Moon Premiere In Los Angeles: A Little Disappointing...

If you ever plan to attend a premiere of the biggest movie of the year,
I recommend, from personal experience,
 that you don't do it...
unless you're willing [and crazy enough} to sleep on concrete for four days
in order to get tickets to stand behind metal barricades lining the red carpet.

Don't go only four hours before the premiere.
It'll take you forever to find a parking spot.
You'll be at the very end of the line
and you'll wait for hours and you'll constantly be told by the event managers
that maybe they'll let you in.

My 12-yr-old sister, Ruth, and my sister-in-law Mayra.
At least our shirts were cool :)

The second tower on the left is where the theater is. That was how long the line was.

Then they'll tell you about a half hour before it starts that you've been waiting in vain
and that there's no more room.
But that you're welcome to find a spot with a million other fans along
the barricades lining the street where the actors/guests pull up in
their limos and fancy cars.

And you'll do it because you've waited so long
and want to catch a glimpse, just a glimpse of them,
the actors you've seen hundreds of times on screen,
in pictures, on magazine covers, on tv.

The cars start to arrive,
black-tinted windows rolled up so it's impossible to see who's in them.
The brave ones roll them down just for a peek.
A couple, like Jackson Rathbone, Nikki Reed, and Alex Meraz,
wave to you and say nice things like,
"Hello!" and "Thank you!"
Others even take pictures of you.

Jackson Rathbone: Jasper

One of the werewolves; sorry I don't know which one.

And you wait,
knowing full well that the most anticipated-for actors will be last.
By then you've been pushed and prodded and have touched more body parts
not belonging to you than you've ever wanted to.

At least we got free vitamin and smart water...

A couple times Ruth & I stole away to walk to the front and see them setting up the red carpet. The fans {who got tickets to stand next to the carpet} were already in place a few hours before the premiere started.

You see Dakota Fanning, but she's too far away to take a picture.
There are other stars there, too.

Then more of the New Moon actors arrive on the scene.

Then...
you see him drive by in a non-tinted-windowed car,
wearing a tux and looking oh-so-Edwardly,
right hand hiding his smirk of a smile,
as if thinking, "Oh, boy, here we go again,"
and then thousands of girls are pointing and yelling,
"ROB! IT'S ROOOOOOOB!"

He gets out quick as lightning and is immediately surrounded by five bodyguards.
He walks over to sign autographs and his men are pushing the barricades back
as the fans are crying and reaching, and pushing.
He gets closer and closer and you can barely see him through the crowd,
but then, in the blink of an eye,
 he's gone.

And you know that's as close as you'll get to any of them.
Then Taylor arrives, and it's the same thing.
And finally Kristen.

I didn't even get to see her.
I am too short.

I don't regret going, because at least I caught a glimpse, if only a glimpse.
I didn't get autographs or great pictures
and I didn't touch or talk to any of "them."

But this was the biggest premiere of the year,
with about ten thousand fans in attendance.
So I had low expectations and now I know NOT to do it again.
I do want to attend more premieres--smaller, more intimate ones.
Just not ones having anything to do with Twilight.
I'm a little New-Mooned out.

I was reminded of a valuable lesson:
that I should be "in the world but not of the world."

And that I love the books so much better than the movies.

Invitations

I know what you're thinkin': "Enough with the New Moon!"
My question to you is: can you ever get enough of it?
I can't. =}

Thought I'd show you the front of my spectacular birthday/New Moon party invitations.
{If you'll be anywhere close to Camarillo on November 21, you're invited}
I made them round, New Moon, you know,
and added my personal favorite line of the book.

"Wasn't one myth enough for anyone, enough for a lifetime?"

Yeah, it's going to be an awesome party.
The only thing that would make it the best is if one or both
of these delicious male actors would be there.

Sink your fangs into this:

New Moon Soundtrack

It's actually pretty good.
It's kind of like the Twilight Soundtrack--
I listened to it before I saw the movie and didn't love it ,
but I do now because I can picture all the scenes as I listen to each song.
So I'm ready! November 20th can come any day now.

New Moon: Not So New To Me.

I realize it's been a while since I've posted anything about the Twilight series. This is not because my obsession has diminished in any way; it has, in fact, heightened in recent weeks, but I know that it's everywhere and I just wanted to give everyone a break. Until now.

Just a little background on how I came across the books {before anyone else had even heard of it; I'm so proud of this little fact--can you tell?}.

In August 2006, I was working at CSUCI's library during the summer. I had read all the other books on the Young Adult shelf and always passed over this one book titled Twilight. I was in no mood to read about vampires. Ech. Blood, bites, death. So I read everything else but that. Around the middle of the summer, though, I realized I didn't have any other books I wanted to read. So I reluctantly took Twilight off the shelf and decided to read it, just to give it a try. {Is it getting suspenseful now?} It took me a few weeks to get past the first few chapters...it wasn't until the fourth or fifth chapter that I realized, Wait, this is SO not what I was expecting. I then proceeded to polish off the rest of the book.

Life-changing. I could never go back now.

Franco will attest to this--I loved it. By September I had talked about it to everyone {My friend Sherry Hales: "Twilight? Vampires? No, I've never heard of it."} and looked up the author {hello--she's mormon!} and found out there was a sequel. New Moon had just come out but of course the libraries had no copies of it yet. I went to the closest bookstore to me, Bookworm, and asked the owner about this new book, New Moon. She had never heard of it. Surprised? She looked it up on the computer and said, quote, "Ooh, that's a pretty cover. I've never seen this before." She said she could order it for me but I couldn't wait that long. I went to Barnes & Noble; they didn't have it either. Boo. I had to order it off Amazon.

This was October already. New Moon arrived--I read it, loved it, wanted more. Eclipse? Had to wait until next summer. The rest is history.

Sorry if this was too much. I wanted to document it so that my future kids will know just what a crazed mother they have. And to show how incredibly excited I am for New Moon! So much in fact that I'm really considering having an "Intro to New Moon" birthday party {bday is Nov. 24} where we can watch Twilight on a projector and head out to watch New Moon right after. Still thinking...

Meanwhile, check out the New Moon Movie website. Pretty pics of pretty boys~ and girls. But mostly boys.
