september in utah.

last night thunder rolled so loudly through our open window that it woke us all abruptly from our sleep. then a sound like a million tiny metal balls hitting the sidewalk began soon after, and a clean, crisp whiff breezed through the screen. bursts of light every five seconds made me wish i was witnessing nature's electrifying show, but instead franco and i, grinning in the dark, leapt out of our bed and cuddled up next to our 2 1/2 year old son clarke on his mat on the floor. for a good fifteen minutes clarke commented during his first real thunderstorm: "it's daaaark outside."  "whoa, did you see that? that was an orange light!" "boooooooom!" were some of his endearing descriptions. all the while in my mind, i was singing along with julie andrews, "raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens..."

+ real thunderstorms like i hadn't experienced in years.
+ morning walks around a nearby lake and observing the ducks.
+ the sound of children playing happily while catching up with life-long friends.
+ majestic "big piles of  dirt" (what clarke calls mountains) showing patches of yellow, orange, and red.
+ lengthy and animated conversations over empty plates after dinner with family.
+ waking up before the world and nursing everly and feeling like we're closer than we were when i carried
her a mere few months before.
+ walking out of one of the most sacred buildings on earth hand in hand with my husband and eternal partner, franco, rejuvenated spiritually and a thousand times more thankful i have him by my side.
+ listening to the quiet breathing of my slumbering family while i stay up way past my bedtime to write this post.

these are a few of my favorite things.

Ventura Harbor In The Rain

Happy Wednesday! It's been raining cats, dogs, and every other animal you can think of here in southern California. Seriously, it hasn't let up for five days! There is sunshine promised by tomorrow, but we'll see. I wouldn't really mind a rainy Christmas. It was a little unfortunate for my Utah cousins, though, who wanted to get away from the snow for the weekend got sheets and sheets of rain instead. We didn't let it stop us! On Saturday we had a little lunch at the Ventura Harbor in one of their favorite harbor restaurants, Spinnaker's. My fish combo kabob was pretty tasty. My cousin Kevin had clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. Yum. And crazy cousins wanted to have ice cream, too. They were determined not to let the rain dampen their vacation! It was so fun having them here, even if the trip was too short. Isn't that always the case?

Just A Little Lip Gloss And Mascara.

It's one of those days.

Cold April showers...

{photo of a tree outside my office building}

Got out of bed an hour after my alarm went off...

Rushed out looking like death, but thankfully I grabbed my makeup bag so I could at least
put on a little lip gloss and mascara.

Look much better now.

How was your morning?

It's Raining Today

                                                 and all this week.
I hope there's a rainbow after all this rain.

I want me some rainboots.

But it will~

I'll make it rain.

I Kind Of Feel Like Lorelai Right Now...

that I can kind of relate to at the moment.
{watch a clip of it here.}

Lorelai, Lauren Graham's character,
has smelled something in the air.
She wakes Luke up and rolls him out of bed.
Luke grrs and grumbles.
They head outside because Lorelai smells snow.
Lorelai is remembering how much
she loves snow,
her favorite time of year.

 "Flakes, flurries, swirls, crystals,
whatever form it comes in.
I’ll take it.
We go back, snow and me.
We have a beautiful history."

Luke says the forecast didn’t call for snow.
But, Lorelai is right.
The flurries start coming down.
And she grins from ear to ear.

So the day continues and Lorelai's in heaven.
But the snow causes a lot of problems
and she realizes that snow isn't as
welcome as it's always been for her.

"Snow is nothing but annoying icy frozen water stuff
that falls out of the sky at inconvenient times.
It’s just stupid stuff you have to shovel out of the way
so customers can get into the Inn. It’s the stuff that melts
and leaks through your roof!
It’s the stuff that stalls your car,
it’s the stuff that buries your car."

How does this pertain to me right now?
I love the rain.
The smell, the sound, the sense of renewal.

But when the power shuts down at my office
and I can't do the work I need to do,
the rain doesn't seem too nice to me anymore.

One of my bosses, Jason,
drove an hour in the rain today from his home office to work at the
Camarillo office today and literally two minutes after he got here,
the power went off.

And, today is the only day of the week when I don't have my car
so I couldn't drive home myself.
Poor Jason, he had to drive me home,
where there is power and internet access,
and then had to drive all the way back to his house.
I feel so bad.

I need a homemade ice rink to reconcile myself with the rain.

My Rainy Day Outfit

I couldn't resist posting my rainy day outfit.
I'm just so happy it's raining.

Last weekend Franco & I went shopping.
Well, we went to the mall with the intent to just get out of the apartment,
and these were the results.

I bought skinny jeans!
I can't believe it.
But I felt like the only one out there with flared or bootlegged jeans anymore--
I felt so left out.
Is this just a California thing?

Everything but the shoes & scarf are from Forever 21. I went on a spree. =}
But everything shown above still didn't cost as much as the sweater Franco bought.
Seriously, he's the fashionista out of the two of us, no joke.
It is a nice sweater, I'll give him that!

Refreshing Rain

Now it really feels like fall.
It's raining!
I woke up this morning and looked out the doors to my balcony...

It's as if my world has turned into black and white!
I love it.

I couldn't resist taking some pictures on the way to work.
{Don't worry, Franco was driving.}

Around The House

I've been waiting for the rain.
It came one day and the world was fresh and clean.
Let the rain come again and renew the world,
so I can take more pictures of how beautiful the world looks.
