Have you recovered from the Halloween-ness of last weekend? =)
I meant to post sooner but of course life got in the way.
We had a pretty good weekend.
Recap:
Friday night, Franco headed to the Camarillo vs. Oxnard Football game and
though my alma mater won,
I still felt bad that Oxnard's winning streak got crushed.
Heard it was a close game, though!
I helped my family throw a party for my brothers and sister's friends.
It was a great excuse to use all of the cool Halloween party ideas I'd accumulated
and even got to use some free printables.
Aren't those the best?
Got a little morbid for some of the decorations, but I love it ;)
Saturday: Trunk-or-Treat at church
And here is my costume.
It didn't have the impact that I wanted it to,
because Franco ended up not coming with me to the parties,
so I was solo and I just looked like an orange soccer player with a plastic trumpet.
I got a $2 orange shirt from Forever 21 and ironed-on a design that said:
"Holland is the REAL #1" on the back.
Franco was supposed to dress up like a player from the Spain team
and I was going to paint bruises on my skin
and say that the Spanish team beat me up for wearing this shirt.
Even though it didn't work out,
I still had fun and loved seeing other people's costumes.
Saw lots of Glee, 80s, pirates (still??), and Star Wars characters.
Fast forward to Sunday, on Halloween,
we did one of the coolest things ever with our friends Chris + Emily.
You've heard of the Spirit of Christmas, right?
This year we felt the Spirit of Halloween.
Sunday morning we went to an assisted living home here in town
and went "Trick or Treating," backwards.
When we knocked on a door, we gave them a treat!
Franco & Chris put on some shades and were "secret agents". It worked out perfectly: they both had red ties, too! |
Some of the elderly living in the home were able to walk up to answer the door,
but some were bedridden.
My hear just broke seeing some of them.
I made a short video of the smiles we got--
well, it was mostly the kids who made them smile.
I just stood in the sidelines amazed at how happy a simple gesture like this made them.
Within an hour I know the spirit touched my heart even more than it did theirs.
Thanks, Emily, Chris, Ethan, and Naomi.
You brought a whole new meaning to Halloween this year,
and we'll never forget it!
