13-year-old Alisa, our friend, was performing as part of an orchestra. We were so impressed! I didn't get a picture of her, unfortunately, but she was the youngest musician there by at least 10 years! She played the harp and she did beautifully. Some of the other performances included songs like, "Tiger Gnashing Teeth" or something like that, where they played instruments which sounded like a real tiger prowling through the woods and gnashing its teeth.
One of my favorites was the Chinese orchestra. It was so interesting to see the variety of instruments which made the music I've heard all my life but never knew what they looked like. Especially the Chinese dulcimer or Yangqin {I looked it up when I got home} that sounds like a piano and harp put together but is played while holding bamboo sticks.
The music is so beautiful! It helped me appreciate the Chinese culture so much more.
