Will You Draw Me A Sheep?

Do any of you remember The Little Prince, whether in literary or movie form?

A couple of nights ago I was talking to Bita on the phone.
Talking to my grandmother reminded me of the many years
we spent living together in the same house here in Camarillo,
the same house my parents live in now.

They were memorable, fantastic years.
Now they're in Utah and I visit them as often as I can.
But once in a while I'll remember something my Bito taught me
or showed me
or something I learned from him.

After talking with them a couple of things popped into my head:
a rose and a starry night sky.

Then my mind made the connection:
The movie The Little Prince!
Bito and I used to watch it a lot when I was young,
but I hadn't seen it since I was probably seven or eight,
so all I could remember was, like I said,
a rose and a night sky full of stars.

Upon coming home, I immediately went to my trusty YouTube
and searched "The Little Prince."
So I watched it with Franco.

And as I was watching it
my mind slowly remembered the story
with the little blond British boy who lived on an asteroid,
the stranded pilot of whom he asks, "Will you draw me a sheep?"
the evil snake who ultimately poisons the little boy,
and the fox who gives the little prince some sound advice:
"You can see clearly only with your heart.
What is truly important is invisible to the eyes."

The story is endearing and very special to me.
It reminds me of my childhood,
and now as a slightly bigger child,
I will always remember those wonderful lessons the people I love so much taught me.
I may not remember all of the details,
but I'll always remember the ever-present love.

I love this book. I read it for the first time a year ago and it made such an impression on me. I will definitely be reading it to my future children!
