A Week Later

I just kept putting off this post because I was lazy, but here it is at last. Our Saturday March 28th was spent at the Huntington Library in Pasadena. My boss and friend Jay Christiansen and his family took Franco, my siblings, and me to see these beautiful and massive libraries, art galleries, and botanical gardens. It was beyond cool!
From their website.

They have a Gutenberg bible! It's about 550 years old.
The library has dozens of books on display such as the Canterbury Tales, a very old King James version of the Bible, hand-illustrated books and manuscripts by scientists and famous authors {Shakespeare, Thoreau, Jack London, etc.}. There are more than 6 million of these here, but obviously not all on display.
Franco & Lev reading the books
Hayley Sawyer and I at a beautiful, very large book

In a science part of the museum where we could do experiments and see Edison's light bulbs, Darwin's books, and Galileo's scripts.

The library part of the Huntington.
In the Huntington mansion, there were paintings on every wall and hundreds of statues, pottery, and artifacts from all over the world. These guys were RICH! Here's the original painting of George Washington...yeah.
Can you see the resemblance? I was the original subject for this painting...
My sister Ruth & I. We all had lunch at one of the restaurants on the property called the Rose Garden Cafe. Such a beautiful, calm day.
We walked and walked and walked until we came to the Japanese gardens. They were so extensive it felt like we were in Japan itself. It went for miles and miles.
Something new there were the Chinese structures and gardens. Extremely beautiful, too.
Here we are with Sharon Christiansen. I realized we didn't take a picture with all the Christiansen's! Whoops.
All the flowers were beginning to bloom. In the Zen garden. I'm meditating. Or pretending to be.
After the Chinese gardens, we walked a little more and came to the Australian gardens, then we took a walk in the jungle. We traveled all over the world that day! It was truly incredible. A perfect day in Southern California.
